Understanding Obesity

Obesity is a serious condition with symptoms that build slowly over an extended period of time. If you,

  • are 100 pounds or more above a healthy body weight for your height or
  • have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or greater or
  • have a BMI of 35 or greater and one or more co-morbid conditions and,
  • have tried and failed with other weight loss methods, then weight loss surgery may be for you.

WHAT PROBLEMS DOES OBESITY CAUSE?

Obesity interferes with basic physical functions such as breathing or walking. Long-term implications of the disease include shorter life expectancy, serious health consequences in the form of weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and a lower quality of life.

NHSA is comprised three General and Bariatric surgeons who offer weight loss surgery, gallbladder, colorectal, endocrine, anti reflux, hernia as well as breast surgery. We also have the capability to perform minimally invasive ultrasound-guided breast biopsies in our office, for the convenience of our female patients.

Aside from surgical procedures, we offer other medical treatments to help combat obesity. We have a team of specialists who can help develop a weight loss plan that is monitored by doctors and nurses to ensure that the treatment is both effective and safe.
