STEP 2: ATTEND OUR FREE WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY SEMINAR
Going to our seminar will help educate you about your weight loss surgery options. During this time, we will go over the insurance approval process, and you will meet the surgeon who will perform your procedure. During this time, Houston and Cypress weight loss patients are encouraged to ask any questions they may have. Attending this seminar is a requirement for any surgical weight loss procedures. The seminars are offered in both English and Spanish.
STEP 3: YOUR WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY CONSULTATION
When you meet with your bariatric surgeon in Houston for your consultation, they will review your current medical condition, conduct a physical exam, determine if you need additional pre-operative testing and answer any questions you may have. From there, you will discuss treatment options and determine the appropriate course of action.
STEP 4: INSURANCE AUTHORIZATION
At NHSA, we accept most private insurance plans and will arrange out-of-network benefits, if available. Our financial specialist will check your benefits and work diligently with your insurance company to obtain approval and will handle appeals, if necessary. You will be responsible for deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses as outlined by your insurance company. Once we receive final word from your insurance company, we値l be able to give you a cost estimate and provide you with resources for additional financing, if necessary.
STEP 5: NUTRITIONAL EVALUATION
We require all of our patients to have at least one preliminary visit with our dietitian before surgery. Many insurance companies also require this before they値l approve surgery. They may require a one-time nutritional visit or a documented three to six month supervised weight loss plan. We値l work with your insurance company to determine what they require.
STEP 6: PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION
We require all of our patients to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine if they are appropriate candidates for weight-loss surgery. Some insurance companies require this as well. We have a specialist with many years of experience who can help you through this process. In some instances, we may accept an evaluation provided by an appropriate medical professional within the past six months.
STEP 7: SELECTING YOUR SURGERY DATE
As soon as we hear from your insurance company, we will give you a call to select your surgery date. We can typically accommodate any schedule. Your surgeon will see you for a pre-operative evaluation at least one week prior to surgery. Then, you池e on your way!
STEP 8: FOLLOW-UP
So that we can monitor recovery, diet, and nutritional status, patients return for periodic visits at two weeks, six weeks, and then every three months for the first year following surgery. During the second year, patients return every six months and then return annually thereafter. If problems occur in between, patients can always call for help. We also provide access to exercise specialists, metabolic and bone density testing, dietitians, and other support resources to help each patient realize their long-term weight loss and health goals.
